About Dr Aemelia Melloy

MBBS, FRACS

Dr Aemelia Melloy is a Brisbane trained General Surgeon who graduated from Medicine at Griffith University and has completed 14 years medical and surgical education. She has done an additional year of post fellowship training in breast, endocrine & general surgery at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Brisbane. Extensive hospital experience in a broad range of specialties has served as a solid foundation for her career as a Cairns General Surgeon.

While Dr Melloy grew up in Brisbane, she spent one year of surgical training at Cairns Hospital in 2017 and has been keen to relocate back with her husband and three children. Prior to medicine, Dr Melloy completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Queensland and worked as a Registered Music Therapist. She remains a keen musician.

Aemelia is passionate about providing caring and comprehensive medical care the Far North Queensland communities. This includes use of low invasive surgical techniques such as laparoscopic procedures where possible, to reduce recovery time and improve patient comfort.

She has a special interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery and commonly performs the following procedures:

  • Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery

  • Hernia Repair

  • Gallbladder surgery

  • Skin Cancer surgery

  • Colon Surgery

  • Appendicectomy

Aemelia is a member of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and was awarded the title of Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2021.

Dr Melloy treats both Private and Public patients at the Cairns Private Hospital and Cairns Base Hospital.
